Power Plant Operations Manager

Position Overview
The Designate Power Plant Chief is accountable for supporting the Chief Operating Engineer in orchestrating the operations and maintenance of the Power Plant to fulfill production requirements while adhering to quality, safety, and continuous improvement standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations:
- Assist the Chief Engineer in managing programs related to electrical, mechanical, and construction activities, as well as the upkeep of existing facilities and equipment.
- Establish a comprehensive preventive maintenance management system.
- Oversee effective cost management for the Power Plant and assist in budget formulation.
- Play a pivotal role in the natural gas procurement team.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers and regulatory bodies.
- Delegate and confirm the completion of routine maintenance and operations for all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Support the management of inventory control programs and systems.
- Develop strategies aimed at reducing energy usage and minimizing environmental impact.
Quality & Safety:
- Promote and sustain a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Support the implementation of OHAS 18001 Safety Management Programs.
- Formulate and execute site-wide equipment standards for maximum efficiency.
- Guarantee comprehensive training for all employees in accordance with ISO guidelines.
- Conduct regular assessments of operational mechanical, electrical, and equipment systems.
- Ensure quality assurance through the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs.
Team Management:
- Guide team members by clarifying role expectations and discussing performance.
- Oversee departmental work schedules, payroll, and job administration.
- Accountable for all safety-related permits.
- Assign and supervise maintenance projects for team members.
Project Management:
- Manage and deliver budgets for CAPEX/OPEX projects.
- Lead change initiatives to achieve business objectives.
- Assist in necessary projects and programs to ensure departmental annual goals are met.
Competencies
- 1st class Power Engineer certification from the TSSA.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal abilities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer systems.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Software proficiency: JD Edwards, Kronos, MS Office, Rockwell DCS Controls.
- Knowledge of pertinent codes and regulatory standards.
- Ability to drive results, customer-centric focus, and team collaboration.
Education
- Required: Trade Certificate: First Class Operating Engineer qualification.
- Preferred: College Diploma in Stationary/Power Engineering.
