Job Title: Physiotherapist, Schools

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Physiotherapist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Physiotherapist, Schools, you will provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to school-age children with special needs in Burnaby schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide physiotherapy services to promote physical function, fitness, and motor performance in children with special needs.
  • Assess and plan, implement, evaluate, and modify rehabilitation programs and services to meet the needs of individual children.
  • Provide in-service education to students, teachers, and other school staff on the special needs of children and rehabilitation topics.
  • Collaborate with school officials to develop programs to teach non-handicapped students about the needs of students with developmental difficulties.
  • Assess and recommend modifications to improve accessibility in educational and community environments.
  • Establish and maintain liaison between parents, schools, physicians, and community agencies to provide comprehensive care.
  • Provide information and training on various topics, including disability awareness and implications for other students and teachers.
  • Recommend and/or collaborate with others for seating and positioning to provide students with suitable and comfortable equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Two years' recent, related experience, including one year in pediatric rehabilitation.
  • Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC).
  • Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).
  • Valid Class V B.C. Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and objectives of assessing and treating developmental disabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of community health agencies and available services.
  • Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and modify rehabilitation programs and services.
  • Ability to plan and deliver in-service education sessions to lay and professional groups.
  • Ability to assess clients and plan, deliver, and evaluate therapeutic programs.
  • Ability to instruct clients, families, teachers, school staff, and other health care professionals regarding rehabilitation and related topics.
  • Ability to prescribe and/or recommend a variety of self-help aids and rehabilitation equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of charts, records, and reports related to work.
