Job Overview

The Manager of Product (Health & Dental Benefits) is tasked with formulating effective product strategies that align with growth targets and position Manulife as a premier service provider in the Group Benefits sector. This role involves the development, assessment, and enhancement of long-term strategies for essential product lines to ensure sustained capabilities, differentiation, and value for Group Benefits plan sponsors and their members.

Collaborating closely with teams in Marketing, Distribution, Pricing, Operations, and Technology, the Manager will create innovative market entry strategies to stimulate product growth. Furthermore, the Manager will actively seek new avenues to meet evolving customer demands. This position is pivotal in propelling our healthcare and digital transformation initiatives forward.

Key Responsibilities:

Individual Accountabilities

  • Support the development and introduction of new products and services, serving as a subject matter expert for existing offerings.
  • Utilize industry insights and research to enhance the competitiveness of product solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in product development projects, ensuring timely implementation and resolution of any arising issues.
  • Drive projects to successful completion; assist the business in making critical decisions promptly; foster consensus.
  • Establish and maintain a KPI reporting framework to monitor sales performance and utilization, ensuring targets are achieved and actionable insights are derived from data.
  • Leverage market research to influence significant product development choices.
  • Collaborate with team members to consolidate feedback and create a prioritized roadmap that addresses growth and retention.
  • Assess industry trends, regulatory shifts, and market dynamics.
  • Respond to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders to ensure clarity regarding product offerings, features, and governance.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to RFPs and/or engage in finalist presentations.
  • Collaborate with team members to craft compelling product narratives that resonate with the market while maintaining financial viability.
  • Partner with pricing and other relevant collaborators to ensure a profitable product framework.
  • Nurture relationships with key business partners, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Job Requirements:

  • Develop and articulate the product strategy, encompassing research, business casing, product development, execution, and evaluation.
  • Oversee product performance and adapt to shifting market requirements.
  • Collaborate with marketing and distribution leaders to formulate go-to-market strategies and plans.
  • Analyze data and extract insights to inform business decisions.

Competencies:

  • 6-7 years of relevant experience, including go-to-market strategy or similar.
  • University degree or equivalent experience; MBA, GBA, and/or CEBS designation or other relevant business education is advantageous.
  • Experience in the health sector and/or service industry is preferred.
  • Confidence and credibility to present to senior leadership and business unit teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, comfortable with quantitative and financial analysis; high conceptual ability and strategic operational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex technical issues into fundamental concepts.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to foster effective collaborations with business unit leaders.
  • Highly developed financial acumen and business orientation.
  • Ability to navigate a complex environment, leading teams with diverse mandates and varying value drivers.
  • High self-motivation and a strong sense of ownership in delivering project outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Decision Authorities:

  • Implement product strategies and plans for the Group Benefits organization.
  • Manage risk within the product portfolio.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with increasing complexity and interdependencies between products and services.
  • Balance strategic, tactical, and operational considerations while ensuring consistent quality and delivery standards for product offerings.
