Job Description

**Job Title:** Education Assistant II

**Job Summary:** We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant II to join our team at Parkland School Division. As an Education Assistant II, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex needs, providing instructional and non-instructional assistance to teachers, and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional support to students with complex needs, including toileting, alternate communication systems, and mobility assistance.
  • Assist teachers with various tasks, such as organizing materials, preparing lessons, and maintaining a safe and secure classroom environment.
  • Support students with personal care and hygiene needs, including feeding, dressing, and toileting.
  • Collaborate with therapy teams to implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and adapt educational materials to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a smooth and supportive learning experience.
  • Participate in student team conferences and contribute to the development of student-centered plans.
  • Perform clerical tasks, such as photocopying, laminating, and preparing snacks.
  • Assist with supervising students during field trips and outdoor activities.
  • Travel with students to job placements and community outings.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Teacher Assistant Certificate or Educational Assistant Certificate (an asset).
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and First Aid Certificate (an asset).
  • Experience working with students with complex needs (1-3 years).
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Courses or training in Attention Deficit Disorder, Special Needs Disorders, English as a Second Language, Behaviour Management, Crisis Prevention, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and Food Handling and Preparation (an asset).
Working Conditions:
  • Work indoors and outdoors, supervising students during field trips and outdoor activities.
  • May require use of a personal vehicle.
  • May be required to lift items that comply with safe lift and transfer guidelines.
