Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cardiovascular Perfusion Specialist to join our team at Uhnresearch. As a key member of our Perfusion Services department, you will play a critical role in supporting our cardiac surgery team by providing expert circulatory support and homeostasis to patients undergoing cardiac and non-cardiac procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and Optimize Circulatory Support: Utilize theoretical knowledge and technical skills to assemble, calibrate, and operate the heart-lung machine to maintain optimal circulatory support and homeostasis for patients.
  • Assemble and Operate Myocardial Preservation: Assemble, operate, and monitor myocardial preservation during cardiopulmonary bypass to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide Therapeutic Services: Administer medical gases, anesthetics, drugs, blood products, and crystalloid solutions as prescribed by medical staff to support patient care.
  • Monitor and Operate Ventricular Assist Devices: Operate and monitor ventricular assist devices to support patient care and optimize outcomes.
  • Ensure Quality and Safety Standards: Ensure that all procedures and practices meet the highest standards of quality and safety to protect patients and staff.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Completion of a BSc degree with a diploma in Cardiovascular Perfusion and certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion (CSCP) or American Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Thorough knowledge of extracorporeal physiology and mechanics, as well as specialized knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass and myocardial preservation.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Ability to recognize and respond to complex problems and adapt to changing situations to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
