Position Overview

The Traffic Management Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of provincial highways. This position is responsible for managing incidents such as traffic collisions, hazardous spills, and other emergencies that may impact roadway safety and the traveling public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for provincial and local law enforcement, fire services, and emergency responders during incident management.
  • Utilize two-way radios and telecommunication devices to relay critical information and updates regarding incidents to the Ministry of Transportation Traffic Operations Centre.
  • Complete and maintain detailed incident reports.
  • Coordinate alternative routes in the event of road closures or system failures.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into all fatal incidents to assess whether roadway conditions contributed to the occurrence.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all significant incidents involving assets, personnel, and equipment.
  • Assist in managing third-party claims by collecting necessary documentation and relevant information.
  • Organize traffic control measures for special events, including detours and road closures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements to mitigate legal challenges.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment, promoting fairness and respect.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven ability to manage workload independently while prioritizing tasks and solving problems effectively.
  • Strong foundation in emergency response management principles, with skills in communication, assessment, decision-making, and independent judgment.
  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
  • Possess a heightened sense of safety awareness and the ability to identify potential hazards in various tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Ability to maintain focus on safety while operating tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Adhere to Ferrovial's Risk Management, Quality Assurance, and Health, Safety, and Environment management systems.
  • Commitment to achieving excellent results in Risk and HSEQ.
  • Act as a role model for a positive health and safety culture within the workplace.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in highway maintenance operations, traffic control, and incident management.
  • A valid Class DZ driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary for operating company vehicles.
  • Certification in OTM BOOK 7 is required.

Working Conditions

This role involves exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and potential hazards associated with outdoor work. Employees may encounter moderate to high noise levels and may be exposed to various environmental factors.
