Position Overview

We are seeking qualified candidates for the role of Specialist, Cyber Security. This position plays a crucial role in safeguarding our information and technology assets.

The Specialist, Cyber Security is responsible for delivering advisory services and operational support to manage risks associated with Information Technology. This involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to establish, implement, and monitor security measures while responding to security incidents. The Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Security Operations.

This role offers the flexibility of remote work options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing and managing potential information security incidents.
  • Overseeing security measures, events, and compliance both in the Cloud and on-premises, taking prompt corrective actions and escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Conducting risk assessments and formulating recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
  • Providing expertise in security controls, principles, and best practices for both Cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Detecting anomalies and engaging in proactive threat-hunting for potential security incidents.
  • Ensuring the availability of security applications and delivering security initiatives on time and within budget while meeting service level expectations.
  • Collaborating with clients to enhance security measures and controls.
  • Developing and executing security playbooks, standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Staying informed about threats to our information and technology systems and keeping abreast of cybersecurity trends.
  • Managing and facilitating the Employee Cybersecurity Awareness Training Program.

Qualifications for Success

  • A degree or technical diploma in Computing Science or Computer Systems Technology, or a related field with equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Possession or pursuit of an accredited Information Security Certification such as ISC2 CISSP, SSCP, ISACA's CISM, CISA, or SANS GIAC.
  • Familiarity with Security Management frameworks (ISO 27001, 27002, NIST, Cobit) and related regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK Framework, Cyber Kill Chain analysis, and other threat analysis models.
  • Understanding of computing infrastructure, communication protocols, and operational safeguards.
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows operating systems as well as networking technologies.
  • Strong grasp of vulnerability management methodologies.
  • Experience with Information Security Operations Tools, including Security Information Event Management and Intrusion Prevention Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of hybrid Cloud security environments.
  • Experience in developing detection and correlation rules to enhance monitoring capabilities.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, bash, PowerShell, ruby) and Security Orchestration and Automation for efficiency improvements.
  • Experience in conducting penetration testing for both on-premises and Cloud systems to identify vulnerabilities and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Ability to assess security risks and impacts, prepare risk assessments, and develop appropriate security recommendations.
  • Capability to identify and analyze emerging threats and provide actionable intelligence.
  • Proficient in incident management and remediation support.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is considered an asset.

Additional Information

This position falls under the jurisdiction of PROF and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.
