Position Overview

We are seeking to fill two full-time, permanent positions for a Cyber Security Specialist.

The Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for delivering advisory services and operational support related to the management of risks associated with Information and Technology. This role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to define, implement, monitor, and respond to security measures and incidents, while providing oversight for critical security processes. The Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Security Operations.

This role is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing and managing potential information security incidents.
  • Overseeing security measures, events, and compliance with policies both in the Cloud and on-premises, taking prompt corrective actions to address issues, and escalating complex matters to the Operations Security Manager.
  • Conducting risk assessments and offering recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
  • Providing expertise in security controls, principles, and best practices for both Cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Detecting anomalies and engaging in proactive threat-hunting for potential information security incidents.
  • Ensuring the availability of security applications; delivering security initiatives on time and within budget; and meeting service level expectations for event response and application currency.
  • Consulting with clients to review and enhance security measures and controls.
  • Developing and implementing security playbooks, standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Maintaining awareness of threats to the organization’s Information and Technology, and staying informed about trends in Cybersecurity.
  • Managing and executing the Employee Cybersecurity Awareness Training Program.

Qualifications for Success

  • A University Degree or Technical Diploma in Computing Science or Computer Systems Technology, or a comparable combination of experience and training in a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Currently holding or pursuing an accredited Information Security Certification such as ISC2 CISSP or SSCP; ISACA's CISM or CISA; or SANS GIAC; or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Security Management frameworks (ISO 27001 and 27002, NIST, and Cobit) and related regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK Framework, Cyber Kill Chain analysis, and other relevant threat analysis models.
  • Understanding of computing infrastructure, communication protocols, operational processes, and security measures.
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows operating systems, as well as Networking protocols and technologies.
  • Strong grasp of vulnerability management methodologies.
  • Experience with Information Security Operations Tools, such as Security Information Event Management and Intrusion Prevention Systems.
  • In-depth security knowledge of hybrid Cloud environments.
  • Experience in developing detection and correlation rules to improve monitoring and alerting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, bash, PowerShell, ruby) and Security Orchestration and Automation to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Experience in conducting penetration testing for both on-premises and Cloud systems to identify vulnerabilities and provide remediation recommendations.
  • Ability to identify security risks and impacts; conduct risk assessments, information security reviews, and penetration tests; and develop security infrastructure designs with appropriate safeguard recommendations.
  • Capability to research emerging threats and provide actionable threat intelligence.
  • Proficient in incident management and remediation support.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is considered an asset.
