We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team at North York General Hospital. As a key member of our Health Records Coding department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of patient data.
Key Responsibilities- Accurately code and abstract patient-related health information in accordance with MOHLTC and CIHI's ambulatory data set practices.
- Meet benchmarks set for coding productivity standards.
- Participate in month-end activities for data submissions to CIHI and assist with hospital and departmental data quality assurance.
- Utilize advanced computer skills, including proficiency in WinRecs and Cerner, as well as ICD-10 and CCI coding classification systems.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease and disease process, medications and their uses, microbiology, medical terminology, and diagnostic test results.
- Stay up-to-date on Canada and Ontario's coding/abstracting principles and practices, including the Discharge Abstract Database.
- Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Graduate from an accredited Health Information Management program holding the credentials of CHIM and an active member in good standing with CHIMA.
- Successful completion and passing of the National Certification Exam through the Canadian Health Information Management Association.
- Minimum two years' experience with inpatient coding in an acute treatment facility.
- Ability to type a minimum of 60 wpm accurately and timely.
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
