Pediatric Anesthesia Specialist (in conjunction with Pediatric Complex Pain Specialist)
British Columbia's Children's Hospital (BCCH) is a premier pediatric healthcare facility in Vancouver, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for the province's most critically ill and injured children and youth.
Our institution offers a wide array of health services and specialized programs, including extensive pediatric surgical services such as quaternary care neonatal, cardiac, neuro, transplant, and major orthopedic/spine reconstruction surgical services, alongside interventional radiology and cardiology. We also operate an anesthesia-led acute pain service and provide sedation services for various medical disciplines.
BCCH serves as a leading acute care teaching facility, engaging in research initiatives to enhance healthcare delivery through the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and in collaboration with the University of British Columbia.
As part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), we are committed to excellence, guided by our core values: Respect for individuals, Compassion, Innovation, Partnership, and Purposeful service.
The Department of Pediatric Anesthesia at BCCH is seeking a qualified Fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist who will also apply for a separate position in Pediatric Complex Pain. This dual appointment includes full-time anesthesia responsibilities and is not available as an independent role. Candidates must fulfill all eligibility criteria for both positions.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about advancing clinical and academic excellence within our team. The role encompasses all clinical anesthesia duties (excluding cardiac anesthesia) and participation in the acute pain service. Successful candidates are expected to contribute to our academic objectives, including quality improvement, education, research, and faculty development, and actively engage in our Clinical and Research Fellowship Program.
Applicants must possess a medical degree and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Anesthesia training must be recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia. Additionally, candidates should have completed subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia and have several years of experience as a practicing pediatric anesthesiologist, with clinical expertise in tertiary/quaternary pediatric anesthesia being essential.
Ideal candidates will also bring one or both of the following qualifications:
- Formal experience or training in clinical research
- Formal experience or training in quality improvement
Successful applicants will be recommended for appointment to the Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia, with academic rank determined by qualifications and prior experience.
Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit their cover letter, CV, and references as part of the application process.
We are committed to reconciliation and recognize the importance of working collaboratively with Indigenous Peoples to foster a sustainable path toward meaningful and lasting reconciliation.
