Pediatric Anesthesia Specialist (in conjunction with Pediatric Complex Pain Specialist)

British Columbia's Children's Hospital (BCCH) is a leading tertiary pediatric facility.

We provide care for the province's most critically ill and injured children and youth,

offering comprehensive developmental and rehabilitation services throughout British Columbia.

Our extensive range of health services includes specialized pediatric surgical interventions,

such as quaternary care neonatal, cardiac, neuro, transplant, and major orthopedic/spine reconstruction.

Additionally, we provide interventional radiology and cardiology services, alongside an anesthesia-led acute pain service,

and sedation services for various medical specialties.

BCCH serves as a premier acute care teaching institution, actively engaging in research through the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute

and in collaboration with the University of British Columbia.

The Department of Pediatric Anesthesia at BCCH is seeking a qualified Fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist,

who must also apply for a separate position in Pediatric Complex Pain. This dual appointment includes full-time employment in anesthesia,

and is not available as an independent role. Applicants must fulfill all eligibility criteria for both positions.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about enhancing the clinical and academic standards of our team.

The role encompasses all clinical anesthesia responsibilities (excluding cardiac anesthesia) and participation in the acute pain service.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to our academic objectives, including quality improvement, education, research,

and Faculty development, while actively engaging in our Clinical and Research Fellowship Program.

Candidates must possess a medical degree and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Anesthesia training must be recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia.

Additionally, candidates should have completed subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia and possess several years of experience as a practicing pediatric anesthesiologist.

Expertise in tertiary/quaternary pediatric anesthesia is essential.

Ideal candidates will also have one or both of the following qualifications:

  • Formal experience or training in clinical research
  • Formal experience or training in quality improvement

Successful applicants will be recommended for appointment to the Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia.

Academic rank will be determined based on qualifications and prior experience.
