The Opportunity:

As the Senior Fundraising Strategist for Capital Initiatives at Olds College, you will be instrumental in furthering our mission by spearheading and executing strategic fundraising initiatives. This includes crafting and securing grants, drafting contribution agreements, and nurturing relationships to support our capital campaign efforts. Reporting to the Director of Development, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, donors, and community, industry, and government partners to enhance engagement, secure funding, and amplify the impact of our institution.

This role also encompasses the implementation of project management methodologies and oversight of fundraising personnel and/or contractors specifically related to capital fundraising, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Strategy and Planning

  • Formulate comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with institutional objectives and priorities.
  • Develop detailed campaign plans, timelines, and budgets to guide execution and ensure accountability.
  • Establish key metrics and benchmarks to assess campaign progress and success.

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Foster strong relationships with current and prospective donors, alumni, and corporate partners.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to identify and prioritize donor prospects.
  • Tailor cultivation strategies to effectively steward donors and deepen their engagement with the institution.

Grant Writing and Management

  • Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
  • Craft compelling grant proposals, applications, and supporting documentation to secure funding.
  • Oversee the grant application process, including proposal development, submission, and reporting obligations.

Contribution and Recognition Agreement Drafting

  • Draft contribution agreements and contracts for philanthropic donations, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Ensure that contribution agreements align with institutional objectives, legal requirements, and donor preferences.
  • Collaborate with legal and finance teams to review and negotiate contribution terms and conditions.

Campaign Execution and Oversight

  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement fundraising campaigns effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinate the creation of campaign materials, including proposals, solicitation letters, and donor communications.
  • Monitor campaign progress, track fundraising metrics, and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

Events and Engagement Initiatives

  • Plan and execute events, receptions, and donor recognition programs to engage stakeholders and demonstrate the impact of philanthropy.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications teams to promote fundraising initiatives through various channels.
  • Travel may be necessary to attend events, conferences, and tradeshows for networking and exhibition purposes.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure adherence to relevant fundraising regulations, ethical standards, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, gifts, and pledges using fundraising databases.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, donor acknowledgments, and campaign updates for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, grant writing, contribution agreement drafting, or project management, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit context.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing fundraising campaigns, securing major gifts, winning grants, and drafting contribution agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and institutional leaders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively articulate the institution's mission, vision, and funding priorities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop evidence-based fundraising strategies.
  • Highly organized with exceptional project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software, CRM systems, grant databases, legal contract management, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require working evenings and weekends, as well as some travel.
  • Represent Olds College professionally at all times.
  • Must undergo a current Criminal Reference check free of any offenses.
  • Adhere to and actively promote health and safety policies.
  • Familiarity with and compliance to College travel and expense policies is expected.
  • A valid and unrestricted driver's license is required.
