Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide support and programming to students in and out of the classroom, collaborate with teachers to implement individualized plans, and maintain records of student progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and programming to students in and out of the classroom
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement and support individualized plans for students with various needs
  • Maintain records and student progress, discuss with team members any changes to an individual student's program
  • Support and assist students and the school as assigned
  • Respond flexibly to changes in schedule and to the needs of students
  • Support and participate in field trips, sports, social, recreational, and craft activities
  • Participate during supervision time and in extra-curricular activities
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Ability to work with children with various skills and abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Completion of a recognized Post-Secondary Special Education Assistant program considered an asset
  • Ability to lift and position students of varying weights
  • Prefer to have or willing to obtain First Aid Certificate
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
