Job Summary

The Ophthalmology Clinic at Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As a key member of our eye care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support to our ophthalmologists and orthoptists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform independent testing of clients for various vision tests, including visual field analysis and optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and maintenance of ophthalmology equipment, including Humphrey Visual Field and OCT Fundus photography.
  • Support ophthalmologists and orthoptists with patient care, including history taking and neutralizing glasses.
  • Assist with minor procedures related to the eye clinic, such as tonometry and pachymetry.
  • Provide patient education and support, including teaching patients about their eye health and vision care.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and communication.

Requirements

  • Ophthalmic Technician Certificate from an accredited academic institution.
  • International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) certification preferred.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
  • Previous experience in an ophthalmologist office or hospital setting as an Ophthalmic Technician or Orthoptist.
  • Experience working with pediatric population.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence with ophthalmology equipment, including Humphrey Visual Field and OCT Fundus photography.
  • Demonstrated computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
