Position Overview

The Construction Estimator and Project Coordinator will report directly to the General/Operations Manager. This role is pivotal in overseeing all facets of construction projects, including securing quotes from subcontractors, managing budgets, preparing final repair estimates, acquiring necessary building permits, and developing construction timelines. The individual will collaborate with internal technicians and external subcontractors to ensure that project restoration is carried out efficiently and within the parameters of client service agreements. Close collaboration with the organization is essential to ensure project feasibility and cost management align with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The following outlines the primary responsibilities associated with this position. The specific tasks and the time allocated to each may vary based on business requirements.

Project Oversight

  • Conduct site visits to prepare comprehensive scopes and estimates for both insurance and non-insurance projects.
  • Respond promptly to emergency claims, assessing the cause of damages.
  • Research and understand the requirements for restoration projects, executing work in accordance with service agreements.
  • Confirm deductibles with clients and secure payments prior to initiating repairs.
  • Manage all project components to ensure customer satisfaction through timely restoration processes.
  • Coordinate project activities with insured individuals, clients, subcontractors, and other consultants.
  • Oversee daily operations of project staff, construction trades, and subcontractors, implementing corrective actions to maintain timelines and budget targets.
  • Assist in resolving change requests, unforeseen incidents, and other project-related issues.
  • Continuously monitor job progress and costs, providing regular updates to clients.
  • Review construction plans for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic site inspections to ensure adherence to approved estimates.
  • Manage the permit process by reviewing applications and ensuring accuracy.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Track and evaluate subcontractor quotes, estimates, and payment requests.

Communication

  • Inform the Operations Manager of emergency work details, including equipment, manpower, and supply needs.
  • Establish effective communication and reporting processes with subcontractors and clients.
  • Proactively address inquiries, concerns, or complaints from insured individuals and resolve issues promptly.

General Duties

  • Participate in scheduled production meetings.
  • Engage in 'on-call' rotations as necessary.
  • Keep management informed of any concerns or opportunities.
  • Attend industry events as required.
  • Mediate and resolve disputes and compliance issues.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain professionalism in all client interactions.

Education and Experience

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Completion of a Construction, Building Technology Diploma, or Engineering Degree. Relevant certifications such as IICRC are considered an asset.

Technical Skills

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with industry-specific software such as Xactimate.

Working Conditions

This position involves a mix of office and site environments, with occasional requirements for physical exertion. The role may involve handling tools and equipment and may require work outside of regular hours to address emergencies.
