Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Planning & Cost Control Technician. This position will be responsible for providing technical planning, scheduling, cost control, and project management assistance to various groups within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the First Line Manager (FLM) in developing work methods, procedures, and standards for the work unit.
  • Provide assistance to section and station staff to plan work, including recommending logical work sequences and cost and resource allocations.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost and schedule estimates for capital and OM&A projects, using computerized models and gathering information from various sources.
  • Develop and maintain cost flowed, resource-leveled schedules, including preparing daily work programs and long-term plans.
  • Monitor and analyze schedule and cost performance for tasks/projects/work programs, identifying scheduling problems and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Verify specified work of other technicians for compliance with established requirements and correctness.
  • Assist the FLM in specifying, testing, and implementing approved changes and/or improvements to information/work management systems.
  • Prepare and maintain records to monitor and report on various aspects of station performance.
  • Participate in routine meetings with OPG and external personnel to discuss and work on delivering effective schedules and cost estimates.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of business systems, work practices, and schedules through attendance at courses or lectures, reading of technical literature, and ongoing collaboration with other work groups.
Requirements
  • Grade 12, plus up to two years of study in a related field, or equivalent.
  • Project Management Experience an asset.
  • Experience with Primavera Software.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks in a time-effective manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work alone or as a collaborative team player.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive, professional, and enthusiastic demeanor.
