Disability Support Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, autism, and/or trauma to live fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support individuals to develop, work towards, and achieve personal goals
  • Ensure individuals' basic needs are met, including hygiene, personal care, life skills, and social/occupational skills
  • Assist with household chores, meal preparation, and cleaning
  • Drive individuals to appointments, grocery shopping, recreational activities, and community events
  • Support and supervise clients' behavioral, emotional, and social needs/development
  • Provide immediate support in crisis situations
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Support Plans (ISPs) and program-specific policies and procedures
  • Connect individuals with their family, friends, and community
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage behaviors and prevent violent or destructive behaviors
  • Administer medication and provide first aid when necessary
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or diploma/degree in Disabilities Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, LPN, Healthcare Aide, Nursing, or related field
  • 1 year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, autism, and/or trauma
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
  • Positive attitude and commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities to live independently
  • Skills in assisting individuals with anger management, daily living, self-help, and other areas
