About the Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Worker II to join our team at the Miller Lake Facility. As a key member of our Fleet Services Division, you will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the building infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, water, sewage, ventilation, and heating systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure efficient operation and provide a safe working environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including janitorial duties, basic lawn care, minor carpentry, and mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Administer service contracts and monitor contractors to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with snow and ice control, and respond to equipment breakdowns outside of regular working hours.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Grade 10 plus two (2) years of related experience in the operation of commercial or institutional buildings.
  • General knowledge of all aspects of building construction and operation, including architectural, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression, HVAC systems, and sewage treatment.
  • Thorough knowledge of operating lawn tractors, cleaning equipment, supplies, and current janitorial practices.
  • Computer skills and ability to keep and maintain electronic records.
  • Good planning and organizational skills, strong public relations skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
