Overview

The Director of Public Relations and Community Engagement plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing a comprehensive strategy for public relations, communications, and community involvement. This position is essential for promoting the organization's mission and enhancing its reputation across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Media Relations Management: Collaborate with external public relations agencies to implement a dynamic media strategy that strengthens the organization's brand and fosters trust among key stakeholders. Act as a spokesperson as needed and assist in managing communication during crises.
  • Internal Communication Development: Partner with internal teams to create and maintain consistent messaging that aligns with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regularly update internal and external stakeholders on community engagement initiatives, media relations efforts, and philanthropic activities.
  • Strategic Communication Planning: Design and execute communication strategies that support broader marketing initiatives, contributing to the organization's long-term success.
  • Content Creation: Produce high-quality written materials, including press releases, articles, and briefings, ensuring clarity and accessibility for diverse audiences.
  • Community Engagement Leadership: Initiate and manage community programs, partnerships, and events that align with the organization's mission, coordinating efforts with various staff members and partner organizations.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with different departments to develop communication strategies for events and services, manage recognition programs, and participate in organizational activities.
  • Team Management: Lead a team of community engagement and communications professionals, overseeing their work in internal communications, community involvement, and media relations.

Ensure all communication and community engagement efforts adhere to relevant policies and standards. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in community relations, strategic communications, or public relations.
  • Proven experience as a spokesperson.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a communications team.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply brand guidelines across various communication platforms.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Willingness to participate in events outside of standard working hours as necessary.
  • Ability to travel for work-related events.
