Position Overview

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a qualified individual to join our Performance Audit Team as a Senior Audit Officer. This role is essential in ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of our auditing processes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Audit Officer, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing comprehensive audit plans and executing performance audits in line with established professional standards.
  • Conducting fieldwork, which involves evaluating systems, testing transactions, and analyzing complex information across various sectors.
  • Identifying and assessing audit findings, and preparing detailed reports summarizing your audit activities.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff, fostering their professional growth through direct supervision.
  • Occasional travel within the province may be necessary to fulfill audit requirements.
Essential Qualifications
  • Possession of a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Demonstrated experience in internal auditing, program evaluation, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in reporting and presenting research findings through written documentation.
  • Experience collaborating in team settings and contributing to project outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills to navigate complex audit issues and multi-dimensional problems.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Familiarity with SAP and CAAT software.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standards on Assurance Engagements (CSAE).
  • Experience in health administration or public health sectors.
