Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will be situated in Calgary and will deliver engineering support for projects within the oil and gas sector. This position involves leading and coordinating cross-functional teams to produce technical deliverables for various assignments. The role primarily operates from the office, with occasional site visits as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make informed technical decisions and resolve engineering challenges with minimal supervision.
  • Define specifications for equipment design or procurement, including rotating machinery, bulk material handling systems, and similar equipment.
  • Draft scopes of work and construction work packages.
  • Review contractor design documentation to ensure alignment with established standards and practices.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to align equipment requirements, including process, reliability, instrumentation, electrical, structural, and piping.
  • Engage with vendors to clarify project scopes and address requests for information (RFIs).
  • Participate in design reviews, which may encompass model assessments, HAZOP studies, and SIL evaluations.
  • Assist the operations team with updates to operational procedures and equipment isolation plans.
  • Support the reliability team in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a P.Eng. designation.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proactive and energetic approach to work.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the Oil Sands sector, with exposure to ore preparation and extraction preferred.
  • Field experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with reliability and asset management practices is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites regularly.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada is required.
