Admissions and Transfer Credit Evaluator
The Admissions and Transfer Credit unit plays a pivotal role in facilitating the enrollment of both Canadian and international students into direct entry programs and beyond. This is achieved through the interpretation and establishment of admission and transfer credit policies, evaluating applicants' credentials, and making informed admissions decisions while assessing transfer credit.
Primary Objective: To assess educational qualifications, credentials, and transcripts from both international and domestic sources for undergraduate program eligibility. This includes verifying the authenticity of international documents, creating and maintaining a comprehensive resource library/database of global education systems, and conducting training sessions on the evaluation and conversion of educational qualifications.
Nature of Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Transfer Credit, the role involves evaluating the credentials of undergraduate applicants from both international and domestic backgrounds. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of effective tools for credential evaluation, produce standard operating procedures for assessing credentials, train staff on these processes, and ensure consistency and accuracy in evaluation decisions. Additionally, you will assist in developing an undergraduate transfer credit database and evaluate transcripts for transfer credit while collaborating with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with admissions officers and assistants as part of a credential evaluation team to assess secondary and post-secondary credentials for programs managed by the Admissions and Transfer Credit Office. This includes:
Evaluating credentials in accordance with established best practices and admission policies, and calculating admission and award averages. Empowering academic units by providing support and resources for credential evaluation. Developing and maintaining comprehensive procedures for verifying institutional accreditation, authenticating documents, and conducting grade conversions. Promoting and maintaining technology and tools that enhance the efficiency of credential evaluation processes. Ensuring that accurate and comprehensive information is readily available online for prospective students and administrative staff. Conducting transfer credit evaluations for international undergraduate applicants and outgoing exchange students. Performing additional duties as assigned.Educational Background: A completion of post-secondary education is strongly preferred; however, a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Professional Experience: Candidates should demonstrate expertise in the admissions process and credential evaluation, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in evaluating international and domestic credentials for post-secondary admissions being advantageous.
Required Skills:
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills. A strong focus on student service. Ability to engage stakeholders and foster consensus. Proven capacity for facilitating and managing change. Aptitude for developing and evaluating administrative tools and procedures. Ability to work independently while being an integral part of a cross-functional team. Proficiency in computer applications is essential. Experience in programming or database development is a plus. Strong knowledge of SharePoint and Excel.
