Position Overview

The Indigenous Employment Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing employment prospects for Indigenous individuals within the communities served by Horizon North. Reporting directly to the Manager of Indigenous Employment, this position is pivotal in fostering relationships and facilitating recruitment efforts that align with our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to strategize, plan, and evaluate recruitment initiatives.
  • Maintain a comprehensive engagement schedule to track outreach efforts.
  • Establish and nurture connections with employment contacts to effectively link job opportunities with potential candidates.
  • Design and implement processes and resources to enhance communication regarding job openings.
  • Conduct preliminary screenings, interviews, and onboarding for new Indigenous hires.
  • Assist new employees in navigating their initial work rotations.
  • Oversee documentation related to courses and programs, ensuring updates and standardization.
  • Manage registrations and payments for external training courses.
  • Coordinate logistics for placements, including scheduling, locations, and mentor assignments.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with mentors to ensure ongoing support.
  • Ensure that feedback forms are completed by managers and properly archived.
  • Prepare program reports for presentation to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create communication materials for various platforms, including announcements and updates.
  • Develop engaging content for social media and recruitment postings.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations, recruitment, or community relations.
  • Understanding of Indigenous history in Canada and experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is advantageous.
  • Active participation in community events and familiarity with Indigenous cultural practices is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software.
  • General business acumen, particularly in natural resource or service sectors, is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and a recent driving record are required.
