Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Providence Health Care. As a Registered Nurse, Critical Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our Intensive Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient status through methods such as reviewing patient charts, observing patients, interviewing patients and family members, and completing questionnaires.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care for patients, prioritizing nursing interventions and developing the plan of care using clinical judgment and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide nursing care according to established policies and procedures, technology, and PHC standards, monitoring patient progress and evaluating outcomes.
  • Record observations and report problems or changes in patient condition to designated staff, providing direct nursing interventions for crisis and life-threatening situations.
  • Document information, including assessments, plans of care, patient status, and progress, in a manual and/or computerized environment.
  • Accompany patients in medical transport vehicles as required, identifying and responding to patient and family learning needs, and providing patient education and reference materials.
  • Lead group patient sessions, coach patients and families to develop and maintain health-promoting behaviors, and provide direction to other staff regarding patient care and facilitate effective teamwork.
  • Participate in nursing orientation, share clinical knowledge with other nursing staff, and participate in in-service presentations and educational programs as required.
  • Support nursing research, facilitate discharge plans, and liaise with families and community resources agencies.
  • Advocate for patients' rights to dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information.
Requirements
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Completion of a post-graduate critical care course or two years' recent experience in an equivalent setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, apply decision-making and analytical skills, and deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work, operate related equipment, and teach and identify patient learning needs.
