ESL Conversation Practice Tutor Volunteer
Are you passionate about learning about other cultures and helping newcomers integrate into their new community? We are seeking volunteers to facilitate ESL conversation practice groups as part of our LACE program.
In this role, you will lead discussion groups for 5-15 newcomers with diverse language levels, helping them become familiar with Canadian culture and learn about community resources. You will also support newcomers in their language learning journey, fostering a friendly, respectful, and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate discussion groups and provide language support to newcomers
- Help newcomers become familiar with Canadian culture and community resources
- Support language learning and cultural adaptation
- Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff
Requirements:
- Good listening skills and effective communication skills
- Resourcefulness and creativity
- Ability to respond to various learning needs
- Patience and flexibility
- Supportive of diversity
- Ability to work in a team
- Fluency in English
Time Commitment: 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months
Available Positions: 2 online session facilitators, 3 in person session facilitators
Our in person sessions take place in various Edmonton Public Library locations.
