ESL Conversation Practice Tutor Volunteer

About the Role:

The LACE program (Learning and Community Enrichment) is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of newcomers. As an ESL conversation practice tutor volunteer, you will play a vital role in helping individuals develop their English language skills and integrate into their new community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate discussion groups for 5-15 newcomers with diverse language levels
  • Help newcomers become familiar with Canadian culture and learn about community resources
  • Support newcomers in their language learning journey and provide a welcoming environment

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Good listening skills and effective communication skills
  • Resourcefulness and creativity
  • Ability to respond to various learning needs
  • Patience and flexibility
  • Being supportive of diversity
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Fluency in English

Time Commitment:

2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months

Available Positions:

2 online session facilitators

3 in person session facilitators

Stanley Milner, Whitemud Crossing, Millwoods, Calder, Lois Hole & Londonderry Mall
