Department: Faculty of Science, Trades and Technology - Labs
Employment Type: Full-time Support
Compensation: $41.12 per hour
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Position Summary:

TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario is dedicated to fostering a hybrid work environment and may provide this flexibility to employees whose responsibilities can be fulfilled remotely, without disrupting the organization's operations. Candidates must be prepared to work on-site as necessary. This role is a full-time support position requiring 35 hours of work each week.

Key Responsibilities: Under the general guidance of the Lab Operations Manager, the incumbent will deliver technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the daily management, upkeep, organization, and execution of Biology programs within the School of Applied Science and Technology. Key duties include:

  • Ensuring adherence to the biosafety protocols.
  • Maintaining and repairing laboratory tools and equipment.
  • Designing and constructing training aids.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Laboratory Technology, ideally with a focus on Microbiology.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a Microbiology laboratory setting, with proficiency in aseptic techniques.
  • Experience in an academic or research-oriented biology laboratory is advantageous.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) biosafety regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act regarding the safe handling, storage, processing, and disposal of chemicals, live cultures, and hazardous waste.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning abilities.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
