The Finance Department at the City of Barrie provides financial leadership, advice, and support to the Corporation, assisting with the delivery of Council's Strategic plan through its four essential services: accounting services, corporate finance, procurement, and revenue management.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the management, preparation, and presentation of the City's annual operating budget, forecasts, and ten-year capital budget.
- Monitor and provide historical and predictive analysis and advice to senior Finance staff and City Department managers concerning budget variances and other financial matters.
- Contribute to the development and support of the City's overall financial policies and objectives.
- Four-year University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Advanced standing in the completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA - CMA, CPA - CGA, CPA – CA).
- Four years of experience in accounting and financial analysis in a municipal environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing and using Key Performance Indicators in a public sector environment.
- Demonstrated experience in a computerized financial environment.
- Working knowledge of the Municipal Performance Measurement Program (MPMP) and Public Sector Accounting Board Standards and Principles.
- Advanced interpersonal, organizational, analytical, planning, and project management skills.
- Intermediate computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel specifically.
