Position Overview

The Research Ethics Coordinator plays a pivotal role within the Research Ethics Board Administration (REBA) office, ensuring compliance with ethical standards in research practices. This position is integral to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders involved in research activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance to researchers on navigating the ethical approval processes, including education on the online application system.
  • Advise on federal and provincial regulations as well as institutional policies regarding human research.
  • Design and implement educational programs to keep the research community informed about procedural requirements and updates.
  • Coordinate ethics-related activities, including tracking application statuses and timelines for review.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of new research applications, ensuring all documentation meets required standards.
  • Identify and report deficiencies in applications to the appropriate board members prior to meetings.
  • Assist researchers in addressing any conditions set forth during the review process.
  • Support the development and revision of REB protocols and related documentation.
  • Create and maintain web-based resources for easy access by researchers.
  • Compile and present statistical data relevant to the ethics review process.
  • Represent the REBA office in provincial committees and working groups as necessary.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and have a minimum of two years of related experience. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also required.

  • Proficient in developing and delivering training sessions to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
