Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Dalhousie University Full time

Department/Unit: Pediatrics

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Opportunity Overview:

The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre is seeking a part-time Neonatologist to enhance our team of seven esteemed academic professionals.

The IWK Health Centre serves as a premier academic tertiary care facility specializing in pediatric and maternal health. It stands as the primary perinatal center for Nova Scotia and acts as the pediatric referral hub for the Maritime Provinces, including exclusive pediatric surgical services. The selected Neonatologist will engage in clinical practice as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team within a 40-bed combined Level II/III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU is equipped with a modern, state-of-the-art single-family room care model.

Our services are bolstered by comprehensive Obstetrical and Maternal-Fetal Medicine support, a full array of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties, advanced diagnostic imaging, laboratory resources, and the Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia, recognized as one of North America's leading regional perinatal programs. Additionally, the Perinatal Follow-Up Program of Nova Scotia works closely with our Division, ensuring thorough long-term monitoring of select infants.

This role presents a unique opportunity to cultivate an academic career within a well-supported funding framework. The multidisciplinary research environment, which includes the Nova Scotia Atlee Perinatal Database and the Perinatal Epidemiology Research Unit, offers a wealth of population-based data for clinical audits and research initiatives. Educational contributions to Dalhousie University's Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Residency Program will provide a dynamic clinical and academic atmosphere.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess an MD degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, having completed recognized specialty training and certification in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (or equivalent). Eligibility for medical licensure in Nova Scotia is a prerequisite. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating prior productivity and the potential for future academic contributions. Compensation and academic appointment will be aligned with experience and qualifications.

Halifax, as the largest city in Atlantic Canada, offers a vibrant maritime lifestyle with numerous desirable living areas in close proximity to Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre, allowing for a variety of leisure activities.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a current CV along with a statement detailing their academic, teaching, and research interests. Additionally, applicants should provide the names and contact information for three referees, two of whom must be academic.
