Position Overview

The Manitoba Government is in search of a qualified individual to fill the role of Senior Shoreline Management Engineer. This position is crucial for providing expert geotechnical support and guidance concerning riverbank and shoreline projects across the province.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Chair and manage the Shoreline Erosion Technical Committee (SETC) to deliver province-wide services.
  • Design and integrate multi-disciplinary technical inputs for projects focused on riverbank and shoreline erosion mitigation and stabilization.
  • Review applications for shoreline and riverbank developments, assessing geotechnical components in relation to flood areas and provincial standards.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM).
  • Willingness to travel within Manitoba as required.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical modeling, erosion protection design, and riverbank stability.
  • Proficient in conducting technical reviews with a solid understanding of geotechnical engineering principles.
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS), particularly ArcView GIS.
  • Knowledge of shoreline erosion mechanisms and slope stability analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and propose innovative solutions.
  • Familiarity with Workplace Safety and Health practices.

Desired:
  • A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is considered an asset.
