Role Overview: The Employee Relations Specialist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive strategic human resources support concerning employee and labor relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement service-oriented employment strategies that offer solutions, recommendations, and best practices to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with organizational policies and legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align strategic employment solutions with departmental objectives.
  • Offer HR advice and guidance to minimize risks and ensure adherence to evolving legislation, including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act.
  • Provide counsel to managers and staff on various employee/labor relations issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, and attendance management.
  • Support departmental leadership in workforce planning initiatives and guide the implementation of structural changes.
  • Analyze client data to provide informed, data-driven advice to assist in achieving departmental goals.
  • Facilitate client support in recruitment, salary administration, job evaluation, onboarding, and training.

Commitment to Client Solutions: Dedicated to identifying and delivering client-focused solutions and continuous quality improvement.

Engagement Initiatives: Support the development and execution of employee engagement initiatives to enhance HR service resources.

External Representation: Act as a representative on HR matters, liaising with legal, professional, and community organizations to preemptively address potential legal challenges.

Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with stakeholders and legal counsel to devise strategies for Human Rights defense and ensure favorable outcomes.

Training and Development: Design and deliver HR-specific workshops and training sessions for staff and managers.

Qualifications:

  • A university undergraduate degree or equivalent experience, along with a Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL) designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and influence in a diverse environment.
  • Experience in labor relations, including grievance and arbitration processes, is advantageous.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong ability to coach employees and managers.
  • Ability to interpret analytics and effectively communicate data insights.
