Overview

The role focuses on the proficient management of Technical Performance, Training, Quality Assurance Processes, and Technical Data to guarantee outstanding product performance, effective raw material cost management, and robust quality control processes. The position requires the development and maintenance of expertise in top-tier quality control methodologies and technical data management systems for Ready Mix Concrete (RMX) in the ECAN region. The incumbent will be responsible for defining a technical data transformation roadmap that utilizes digital solutions and key Quality Control/Quality Assurance initiatives to promote operational excellence, superior quality, sustainability in concrete performance, and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Safety:

  • Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while providing training and orientation to all staff, emphasizing behavioral and cultural aspects.
  • Aid in conducting Job Hazard Analysis for Quality Control functions and develop Safety Improvement Plans.

Human Resources:

  • Recruit, train, and develop technical personnel within the department to foster excellence and consistency, while initiating succession planning.
  • Oversee the activities of technical staff and implement training programs focused on product performance and processes for quality, sales, and operations personnel, as well as additional data-related training for both internal and external clients as necessary.

Concrete Product Performance & Optimization:

  • Support the formulation and management of annual mix cost and performance optimization strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Responsibilities also include the development and implementation of standardized mix design methodologies and management systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Ensure that specifications, mix design methodologies, and best practices are recognized and adhered to by Quality Control teams across ECAN.
  • Establish and implement quality control processes and best practices to mitigate customer claims and prevent non-conforming or underperforming products.
  • Manage and maintain the Quality Control database and item uploads, including necessary General Ledger and Sales Category Codes for pricing and Business Intelligence/Key Performance Indicator reporting.
  • Standardize tools, processes, and reporting for accurate batching and quality, while preparing statistical analyses of plant operational performance and leading investigative efforts to identify root causes and implement corrective actions through plant audits.
  • Establish, monitor, report, and communicate RMX Key Performance Indicator performance with key stakeholders and investigate variances from plans, establishing corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop synergies between aggregates, cement, and concrete for enhanced product utilization, blended sand products, recycled concrete aggregates, and overall cement efficiency for use at Ready Mix plants.
  • Identify and create optimization and performance testing programs supported by data analysis to direct to the regional laboratory in support of area Quality Control/Technical Managers.

Contract Review:

  • Develop and implement contract review processes in collaboration with Quality Control/Technical managers, Value Added Products, and Sales managers.
  • Support the evaluation of large project specifications, working closely with local Quality Control and sales teams, providing recommendations for suitable mix designs and proposing Value Added Product alternatives.
  • This role will assist in the standardized preparation and submission of Mix Design Documentation as requested by clients, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant codes and specifications.
  • Collaborate with Technical/Quality Control managers and regional functions to define and coordinate technical training programs, implementing best practices for specifications review and Value Added Product opportunities.

Technical Support & Development:

  • Develop, standardize, and implement Quality plans and processes, conduct quality audits, create action plans for quality improvement, and monitor implementation progress.
  • Provide expert customer support in specification activities, field sales support, and quality incident investigation and resolution. Identify Value Added Product opportunities and potential innovations for customer projects.
  • Lead Quality Plant audit programs across ECAN to review operations, sales, and quality processes that may impact concrete product quality and performance.
  • Collaborate with local teams to establish practical and impactful action plans while supporting their execution.
  • Develop and facilitate training programs for Quality Control, Sales, and operations on concrete and material applications, promoting best practices across market areas.

Technical Data Transformation & Digital Solutions:

  • Manage digital quality initiatives and big data, developing and implementing data strategies to enhance overall performance, reduce raw material costs, and improve concrete circularity.
  • Investigate and implement innovative tools and digital solutions to support data generation, collection, analysis, and reporting for data-driven decision-making within the ECAN RMX team.
  • Create practical tools and educational materials on leveraging data and digital solutions to elevate the ECAN RMX Technical team.

Financial Accountability:

  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly review processes, tracking quality incidents and costs associated with poor-quality materials.
  • Collaborate with the Finance department to develop new analytical and reporting tools for controlling Quality Control and raw material costs while identifying critical cost-saving opportunities.

Lobby/Representation:

  • Contribute to strategies for representation in industry organizations and Quality Standards Committees, representing the company at relevant industry associations and technical committees.

Relationships with Other Roles:

Collaborate with Technical/Quality Control Managers, Innovation & Development Managers, and other functions such as Commercial and Manufacturing/Operations to define and implement impactful data and digital initiatives.

  • Establish product performance goals and objectives, ensuring alignment across functions and developing yearly quality performance and digital plans.
  • Provide expertise in leveraging technical data and innovative digital solutions to enhance concrete performance while reducing costs and preventing claims.
  • Conduct technical training for Technical/Quality Control, Operations, and Sales teams on concrete performance and best practices, focusing on data and digital solutions.

Liaison with Digital Team, Marketing, and Innovation:

  • Collaborate with the Digital team to ensure alignment of data and digital priorities with the overall strategy.
  • Engage in Innovation and New Product Development initiatives involving new quality control procedures and digital solutions for both internal and external customers.

Qualification Profile

Education and Work Experience:

  • University Degree in Engineering or Data Science preferred with 5 years of relevant experience in Construction or Building Materials.
  • Experience in construction materials or construction involving Big Data, Digital Solutions, and AI is advantageous.
