Legal Advisor to the Mayor's Office

Overview: The Office of the Chief Counsel to the Mayor and City Hall serves as the legal backbone for the Mayor's Office, providing essential in-house legal support. Collaborating closely with the Law Department and General Counsel offices of various City agencies, this office offers legal counsel to help shape and implement the administration's policy objectives.
Position Summary: We are in search of a proactive and service-oriented attorney to engage with senior policymakers. The Associate Counsel will work under the supervision of the Chief of Staff to the Chief Counsel. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive research on local, state, and federal laws, judicial rulings, and other legal documents;
- Offering policy advice and legal insights to City Hall personnel to facilitate mayoral initiatives;
- Collaborating with senior officials on transparency initiatives, including adherence to the Freedom of Information Law;
- Evaluating conflicts, ethics, and privacy issues for the Mayor's Office, including external activities and gift inquiries;
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements on behalf of the Mayor's Office;
- Providing legal analysis on employment, EEO, and conflict issues for Mayor's Office staff;
- Serving as a policy advisor to agencies under the Chief Counsel's purview;
- Assessing and making legal determinations regarding sensitive materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of relevant legal experience, including government, prosecutorial, or law firm backgrounds;
- Exceptional analytical skills and sound judgment;
- Ability to independently manage a diverse workload while prioritizing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment;
- Strong and effective communication abilities;
- Commitment to public service values;
- Proven capability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting;
- Dedication to client service and responsiveness;
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
Preferred Skills:
