About This RoleThe Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) and Digby General Hospital (DGH) are in search of dedicated emergency medicine specialists to fulfill a 1.5 FTE position across both facilities. These hospitals serve a combined population of approximately 60,000 residents in the southwestern region of Nova Scotia. The successful candidate may also engage in educational opportunities through the family medicine residency program at Yarmouth and collaborate with medical students from Dalhousie University.

DGH, founded in 1924, provides comprehensive medical services to the local population, including primary, inpatient, restorative, and ambulatory care, as well as day surgery. The facility features a 20-bed medical and alternate level of care unit that collaborates closely with the collaborative emergency centre in Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth. Additionally, DGH includes a 13-bed restorative care unit focused on patient rehabilitation.

- Prescribe and administer medications, treatments, inoculations, and vaccinations.
- Full-time position shared between YRH and DGH.
- Certification in Emergency Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada is an asset.
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) is required.
- Family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is necessary.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is necessary.
- Completion of Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) course is preferred.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is beneficial.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is an asset.
- Experience in an emergency department is advantageous.
