About the Role
The Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients within a tertiary care environment who exhibit actual or potential impairments, pain, functional limitations, or disabilities. The role involves conducting comprehensive medical history reviews, executing specific and standardized tests, and utilizing evaluation techniques to establish a physical diagnosis.
Treatment Approach
Holistic treatment plans are crafted using a combination of exercises, education, and various therapeutic techniques, including manual, mechanical, electrical, and hydrotherapy methods, aimed at helping patients regain and maintain optimal functional levels. The Physiotherapist also plays a crucial role in educating and communicating with other healthcare professionals, the public, family members, and caregivers regarding health promotion, physiotherapy interventions, and patient management.
Collaboration and Supervision
This position includes supervising and evaluating physiotherapy students, as well as overseeing physiotherapy assistants and aides. The Physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to establish team goals and objectives, participates in assessing team effectiveness, and engages in problem-solving and shared responsibilities. Weekend work may be required in various hospital areas.
Qualifications
We invite applications from candidates who possess:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited institution
- Membership with the provincial licensing body for Physiotherapists
- Proficiency in computer applications (data entry, word processing, email)
- Current certification in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (BCLS)
- Experience in inpatient acute care is advantageous
- Experience in orthopedics, burns, or plastics is considered an asset
- Certification in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Competency in additional languages is a plus, with French being preferred
Work Schedule
- Part-time long assignment (60%); 45 hours bi-weekly
- Approximately a 12-month commitment
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly wage for this position is $42.89. Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
