About the Role

The District of West Vancouver's Engineering Department is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Engineering Assistant I on a temporary full-time basis. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance in various municipal engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections to identify and document sightline issues related to vegetation encroachments.
  • Collect and analyze data for roads, bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use pathways to ensure compliance with municipal regulations.
  • Prepare and provide information to residents, requests, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with site inspections for infrastructure works and prepare preliminary concept designs for review.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of locations with traffic issues and report findings to the supervisor.
  • Prepare construction notices and street occupancy permits as required.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in an Applied Science program at UBC or an equivalent program at another educational institution.
  • Able to perform a 4 or 8-month work term.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering projects and construction methodology.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
  • Access to a personal vehicle to commute to work and perform site visits as needed.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD considered an asset.
What We Offer
  • A competitive hourly rate of $26.87 per hour (2022 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
  • A temporary full-time position with 35 hours of work per week.
