About the Role

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the urban Aboriginal population of the Greater Hamilton area. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Life Skills Coach to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide programming in various settings to enhance life skills that foster independence and confidence, increased health and well-being, and a sense of belonging to clients experiencing challenges maintaining their housing.
  • Work under the direction of the Executive Director to develop and implement culturally sensitive programs and services.
  • Collaborate with community partners and service providers to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, community members, and stakeholders to promote the Centre's mission and services.
  • Conduct needs assessments, develop service plans, and provide case management services to clients.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in areas such as Indigenous cultural competency, trauma-informed practice, and crisis intervention.
Requirements
  • College diploma in Social Services or a closely related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization, preferably in a life skills coaching or case management role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the homelessness serving system and the importance of safe, affordable housing.
  • Strong understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and traditions, including language and history.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention training and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and other database applications.
