Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator is a critical role within Shermco, responsible for performing daily environmental, health, and safety processes. This position requires a strong understanding of safety-related legislation, industry best-practices, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular job site safety inspections, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, and written reports.
  • Maintain safe work practices and procedures, with the authority to cease an unsafe operating procedure if witnessed or concluded following investigation.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on safety-related matters, including audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Investigate incidents thoroughly and effectively, developing reports and communicating with supervisors and employees.
  • Assist with case management for occupational injury and illness, including liaison with WCB and insurance providers.
  • Manage return-to-work programs proactively, working closely with employees, supervisors, and insurance organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and amendments in all relevant jurisdictions.
Requirements:
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Office (NCSO) designation.
  • Experience in a safety role or similar capacity in industrial, mining, and construction settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety-related legislation, industry best-practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Electrical background considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with safety systems and driving leading indicators.
  • Knowledge of ISNetworld and other safety-related databases an asset.
  • Fluent English language skills, with the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Valid driver's license, as travel to and from work sites is required.
