Parks and Facilities Maintenance Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Parks and Facilities Maintenance professional. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing operational and maintenance services to Norfolk County recreational facilities, including parks, pools, arenas, cemeteries, community centers, and other corporate buildings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of operational and maintenance tasks related to pool operations, including start-up, backwashing, vacuuming, chemical testing and balancing, and dealing with pool fouling.
  • Carry out multi-purpose recreational floor operations, including board/bench/glass repairs, floor cleaning, running programs, setting up and tearing down recreation equipment, and other tasks related to the Simcoe Seniors' Centre, hall rentals, washroom, and building maintenance.
  • Assist with the installation, removal, and daily maintenance of ice surfaces in the arena, including operating ice resurfacer, ice edger machines, scraping/cutting/flooding ice, painting lines, and documenting inspection of ice conditions.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of arenas, libraries, museums, cemeteries, community centers, and other municipal administration facilities.
  • Follow generally accepted maintenance and repair standards, administrative policies, and practices, and the County's program of preventative maintenance.
  • Perform cleaning and operations in recreation facilities, ice maintenance in arenas, and maintenance duties in parks and cemeteries, including grass cutting, ball diamond grooming, tree and shrub maintenance, snow removal, and other tasks.
  • Perform a variety of preventative maintenance tasks and repairs in facilities, including monitoring arena refrigeration equipment, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and scheduled cleaning of equipment.
  • Provide assistance in the moving, relocation, and set up of administrative office equipment and supplies as required by other departments.
  • Assist with the operations of the cemeteries, ensuring compliance with municipal and/or provincial policies, procedures, by-laws.
  • Complete initial grave site/foundation/niche preparation, as well as perform final gravesite activities upon service completion.
  • Operate/maneuver backhoe into site and dig grave space to established standards within restricted space confines and with inches between grave spaces; dress graves; level site with compactor.
Requirements:
  • Successfully completed Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of Basic Arena Refrigeration course through Ontario Recreation Facilities Association.
  • Completion of NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator Course through Ontario Recreation Facilities Association considered an asset.
  • Over two years' experience, to become familiar with the scope of the position.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Willingness to work various hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department-specific software to data search and entry, and to create and modify word-processed documents.
  • Awareness of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
