Position Summary:
We are expanding our Canadian Provincial and Territorial Model (CPTM), a meticulous sectoral model encompassing each province and territory in Canada. This model has experienced remarkable growth since its inception and is now a vital resource for clients nationwide.
Role Overview:
The Senior Economist position is situated within the Macroeconomic Consulting division at Oxford Economics, located in Toronto. The successful candidate will report directly to the Lead Economist and will play a pivotal role in advancing our business in Canada, particularly in supporting the CPTM.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Contributing significantly to the production of forecasts and analyses for Canadian provinces and territories, including the maintenance and enhancement of the CPTM.
- Managing extensive historical data to ensure timely quarterly updates.
- Providing technical assistance and training to current CPTM clients.
- Engaging in various macro consultancy projects for clients in Canada and the US, which may involve bespoke model development, research, and scenario analysis.
- Collaborating with the Lead Economist and the business development team to enhance our consulting and subscription services, including participating in sales meetings and demonstrating the CPTM to potential clients.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess a rigorous analytical mindset and a keen interest in model-based analysis for Canada and its provinces. Key attributes include:
- A postgraduate degree in economics with a solid foundation in econometrics.
- Proficient technical skills, including experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Eviews) and MS Excel.
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative abilities.
- Strong collaborative skills for working with colleagues and clients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex results to non-specialists.
Experience in analyzing the Canadian economy, familiarity with provincial macroeconomic and industry data, and exposure to input-output models are advantageous. Proficiency in business French is a plus, though not mandatory.
