About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Pipeline Operations Specialist to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our pipeline crew, you will be responsible for participating in pipeline operations and maintenance, including cleaning and painting transmission system above-ground appurtenances, controlling vegetation, and repairing and replacing right-of-way markers and signage.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in pipeline operations and maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Performing manual labor for excavations, replacements, and system improvements;
- Removing and reapplying damaged pipeline coatings;
- Assisting in the maintenance of all work equipment;
- Operating pipe and cable locating instruments;
- Assisting with responding to emergencies on the gas transmission system;
- Assisting with pipeline system blow-downs;
- Patrolling pipeline right-of-ways and facilities as directed;
- Assisting with transmission pipeline integrity programs;
- Monitoring third-party crossings or infringements for adherence to parameters as identified in the Company permits;
- Directing the work of other employees or contractors when undertaking minor maintenance duties;
- Participating in line patrol and class location surveys by air, vehicle, and on foot;
- Assisting in calibrating valve actuators/operators;
- Assisting with duties associated with launching/tracking/receiving pipeline cleaning and inspection tools;
- Operating hydraulic pipe benders;
- Performing other pipeline operational or maintenance duties as directed;
- Participating in on-call programs;
- Traveling and being away from home on business for extended periods;
- Working as a member of the pipeline crew assisting with the operations of high-pressure drilling and stopping equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Must be a Distribution Mechanic or have three (3) years' related construction field experience in the natural gas industry;
- Must be in good physical condition;
- Must have effective communication skills;
- Must demonstrate safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations;
- Must demonstrate good mechanical aptitude for operations and construction work;
- Must possess basic computer skills;
- Class 5 drivers' license is mandatory;
- Experience working around heavy equipment.
Additional Information
- Valve maintenance experience is desirable;
- This role has standby and on-call requirements based on operational needs;
- This role may have overtime requirements based on operational needs;
- This role may have extensive travel/out of town requirements based on operational needs;
- The successful candidate must adhere to the residency requirements of this position;
- This position has a requirement to be clean-shaven as per WCB standards.
