Position Overview:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto is seeking applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a one-year appointment. The successful candidate will engage in groundbreaking research within the Aspuru-Guzik group, a leader in quantum computing algorithm development.

Role Responsibilities:

The selected individual will be tasked with the following:

  • Designing, developing, and analyzing innovative quantum algorithms applicable to quantum chemistry, Hamiltonian simulation, and quantum linear algebra.
  • Exploring and implementing new methodologies in quantum computation and software development.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the performance of quantum algorithms for diverse applications.
  • Communicating research findings effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preparing manuscripts for submission to reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Presenting research outcomes at various academic conferences.
  • Assisting in the preparation of research proposals and mentoring students or trainees.

Throughout the appointment, the individual will contribute to the overall research and educational objectives of the Aspuru-Guzik group.

Qualifications:

Education: A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on quantum computing and algorithms.

Experience: Candidates should possess:

  • 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience in quantum computing, showcasing independent research capabilities.
  • Proven expertise in the design and analysis of quantum algorithms for near-term and fault-tolerant quantum systems.
  • Experience in organizing scientific workshops or seminars related to quantum computing.
  • Strong mathematical skills, particularly in wavelet theory and multi-resolution analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a research team.
  • A track record of successful grant writing and mentoring students.

Skills: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Mathematica, along with experience using quantum algorithm analysis tools.

Publication Record: A strong history of publications in respected journals and the ability to prepare high-quality research manuscripts and presentations.
