Position Overview:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto is seeking applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a one-year appointment. The successful candidate will engage in groundbreaking research within the Aspuru-Guzik group, a leader in quantum computing algorithm development.

Role Responsibilities:

The selected individual will be tasked with the following:

  • Conceptualizing, executing, and disseminating research focused on the design and analysis of innovative quantum algorithms applicable to quantum chemistry and related fields.
  • Investigating new methodologies in quantum computation and adapting techniques as necessary.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the performance of quantum algorithms across various applications.
  • Communicating research findings effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preparing manuscripts for submission to reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Presenting research outcomes at conferences at various levels.
  • Assisting in the preparation of research proposals and mentoring students or trainees.

Throughout the appointment, the individual will be expected to contribute to the overall research and educational missions of the Aspuru-Guzik group.

Qualifications:

Education: A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on quantum computing and algorithms.

Experience: Candidates should possess:

  • 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience in quantum computing, showcasing academic and research excellence.
  • Proven experience in designing and analyzing quantum algorithms for both near-term and fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • Strong mathematical skills and expertise in wavelet theory and multi-resolution analysis.
  • Experience in organizing scientific workshops or seminars related to quantum computing.
  • Demonstrated ability to write research proposals and secure external funding.

Skills: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral. Strong coding abilities in Python and Mathematica, with experience in quantum algorithm analysis tools.

Additional Information: A strong publication record in recognized journals is essential, along with the ability to prepare scientific manuscripts and presentations.
