Island Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director of Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) to lead and oversee the training of medical professionals within our organization.
Reporting to the Executive Medical Director, Medical & Academic Affairs, this role plays a crucial part in ensuring the highest quality training experience for medical students, resident doctors, and clinical fellows. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment that aligns with both UBC and Island Health policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with local residency programs and the PGME office to ensure seamless implementation of educational standards and guidelines.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for resident doctors, encompassing occupational health and safety protocols, unit-specific orientations, and workplace risk management strategies.
- Provide expert guidance and support to leadership teams on matters related to resident doctors and other medical trainees.
- Oversee the operational aspects of resident doctor training, including policy development, compliance monitoring, and investigation of any breaches or incidents.
- Champion a culture of safety and well-being for all trainees by addressing hazardous working conditions promptly and effectively.
- Lead investigations into allegations of improper workplace conduct, ensuring fair and impartial resolutions.
- Participate actively in relevant committees and working groups, including the Medical Education Committee and the Residents Collective Agreement working group.
- Contribute to regional post graduate medical education planning initiatives in collaboration with provincial medical schools and the Ministry of Health.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, coupled with proven leadership experience in medical education. A commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment is essential, along with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
