Psychiatrist Opportunity in Cowichan Valley

Island Health is seeking a General Psychiatrist to join the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) programs in the Cowichan Valley. The successful candidate will provide psychiatric services to patients in the Cowichan District Hospital and throughout the community.
The MHSU program provides a range of services, including short-term services, case management, and substance use programs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
The Cowichan Valley supports a continuum of services, including a 15-bed Psychiatry In-Patient Unit and a four-bed psychiatric intensive care unit. The new Cowichan District Hospital is expected to open soon, providing a state-of-the-art acute care campus with a dedicated psychiatric emergency zone.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research and training programs, including the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program. Administrative duties will include attending clinical team meetings and providing reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
The position offers a range of benefits, including free shared office space, a secretary, telephone, fax, and email. The successful candidate may be eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA).
