The Welder will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and fitting structural steel, as well as performing various tasks such as rigging, hoisting, and moving materials. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of blueprints and be able to read and interpret them accurately.
Key Responsibilities:- Fabricate, assemble, and fit structural steel according to blueprints and specifications.
- Rig, hoist, and move materials to and from workstations, ensuring safe and efficient use of equipment.
- Lay out reference points and symbols on structural steel according to blueprints.
- Assemble and fit metal sections and plates using tack welding, bolting, or other methods.
- Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding.
- Set up and operate various equipment such as torches, drills, clamping tools, squares, disc grinders, and other hand-held tools.
- Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
- Mentor apprentices and junior fitters by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in welding structural steel.
- Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program in metal fabrication or welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial units.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes.
- Ability to weld with flux-core and sub-arc processes.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organization skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
