Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shop Manager to join our team at First Student. As a Shop Manager, you will be responsible for managing all location maintenance operations and providing shop staff oversight. This is a key role that requires strong leadership and technical skills to ensure the safe and efficient maintenance of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scheduling and Maintenance: Schedule and administer fleet maintenance, assist in troubleshooting problems with equipment, and communicate availability of vehicles for service with dispatch and other operations personnel.
- Supervision and Training: Directly supervise shop staff, including hiring, firing, approving salary increases or decreases, training, and employee development. Ensure that maintenance technicians are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and motivated.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with State, Federal, and Company requirements, and maintain a safe environment for employees and customers. Ensure that all maintenance and related activities are in conformance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Financial Management: Review financial and budget variances, review repair orders, and approve account payable documents. May order fuel for vehicles, order parts, and subcontract repair work.
- Project Management: Initiate and implement projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs. Work closely with the location manager and region maintenance management to provide status of maintenance and budget requirements.
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, technical training preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience, may require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs.
- Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, computer skills, and industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred.
