Job Summary

The Anaesthesia Assistant plays a vital role in the operating room, providing clinical and technical support to anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals. This position requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer Anesthetic Gases and Medications: Safely and accurately administer anesthetic gases and medications to patients under the direct supervision of an anesthesiologist.
  • Conscious Sedation and Monitoring: Provide conscious sedation and monitor patients under general anesthesia, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Regional and Neuraxial Procedures: Assist with regional and neuraxial procedures, airway management, insertion and management of intravenous and arterial lines.
  • Continuous Assessment and Evaluation: Continuously assess and evaluate the depth of anesthesia, making adjustments as necessary to ensure patient safety.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited respiratory therapy or nursing program.
  • Training: Completion of the Michener Institute (TMI) Anesthesia Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Registration: Registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario or the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of current experience in the anesthesia assistant role in the operating room.
  • Certifications: Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to work independently, effective communication skills, and commitment to personal and professional development.
Working Conditions

The Anaesthesia Assistant will work in a fast-paced operating room environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability. Regular travel between hospital sites may be required.
