Temporary Positions: This role is available for a duration exceeding 30 consecutive working days to substitute for a permanent employee who is on an approved leave of absence (e.g., maternity, parental, educational, or medical leave).

Term Positions: This role is available for a duration exceeding 30 consecutive working days due to additional funding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the pre-entry evaluation process for children with exceptional needs in response to requests from Student Services Coordinators, external agencies, or guardians.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to assess students' strengths and needs in relation to their educational programs, both in the classroom and individually.
  • Share assessment data related to physical and occupational therapy with members of the educational team, including guardians and relevant medical and community organizations.
  • Work with the educational team to formulate recommendations and strategies tailored for each student within their classroom and school environment.
  • Maintain ongoing involvement with students to ensure the relevance of initial strategies, adjusting or expanding them as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of Individual Education Plans.
  • Clarify pertinent medical information and assessment data from external services.
  • Provide insights relevant to the student's medical and/or physical condition.
  • Recommend specialized equipment as needed to address individual requirements in consultation with school personnel.
  • Suggest modifications to school facilities and playgrounds to facilitate student participation and meet individual needs.
  • Refer students to additional services and agencies as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principals of Student Services, Student Services Coordinators, and/or the Superintendent of Student Services.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited university program in physiotherapy or occupational therapy with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Eligible for registration with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association or The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Physiotherapists must be registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Occupational Therapists must be registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with children. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, along with strong analytical, organizational, time management, and presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups both within and outside the organization is necessary.
